His Ascension

We cannot see where Jesus our Messiah is, for our earthly eyes do not have the capacity to do so, until God opens our eyes to the spiritual dimension that surrounds us.

When Stephen was martyred God gave him a special ability to see the world hidden from our eyes, for he gazed into heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God; and he said: 'Behold, I see the heavens opened,  and the Son of man standing at the right hand of God.' (Acts 7:55-56).

Jesus ascended into heaven (Lk.24:50-51), to fulfil earthly promise: 'In my Father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And when I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may also be' (John 14:2-3)

  • When Jesus ascended into heaven He received all the glory and honour that had not been His before as the God-Man
  • Sitting at the right hand of God is a dramatic indication of the completion of Jesus work of redemption
  • Sitting at the right hand of God is and indication that Jesus has received all authority, power and dominion over all of creation, and His name is the name above all names
  • Jesus the Messiah (the Christ) must reign until He has put all his enemies under His feet
  • Sitting at the right hand for the Father, Jesus was given the authority to pour out the promised Holy Spirit on the Church, the people of God
  • Jesus is not fixed in sitting at the right hand of God, but engages in many other activities each day, as he works to bring us safely home
