The Church
The church is the community of all true believers from and for all time, it emerged during the Old Covenant as the people of God, the Israelites assembled to hear the word of God and to worship and obey Him.
The New Covenant reveals that Jesus the Messiah (the Christ), will build His church, that is He will complete the work once entrusted to the nation of Israel under the old covenant, He will now take personal charge of rebuilding and glorifying the Church.
The church is the people of God, in physical and spiritual union with Jesus, it consist of a physical visible part, that is in those presently still alive in Jesus, and of those who have previously departed to be with Him, the invisible part.
Furthermore, the yet visible, is also invisible, in its true spiritual reality as the fellowship of all genuine believers, the church is invisible. This is because we cannot see the true spiritual condition of people's hearts. We can see those who outwardly attend church, and we see outward evidences of inward spiritual change, but we cannot actually see into peoples hearts and view their spiritual state, only God can do that (2 Tim 2:19)
The invisible church is the church as God see it.
The gates of Hell cannot prevail against the Church because it is incorporated into the 'body of Jesus', and therefore cannot be 'rent asunder'.
The true church has always existed in the sense that it consisted of all true believers in Israel during ancient times, for a remnant of faithful Jews, remained in existence throughout and were still in existence during the time of Jesus' earthly pilgrimage.
It came into a much clearer visible expression on the day of Pentecost, when the promised Holy Spirit was pour out.
