The Bible

The Bible is a compilation of 66 books, a library in itself, comprising of 807,361 words, written by 40 authors, in three different languages, over a period of 1500 years, and on 5 different continents.

The Bible is remarkable in that its flow is consistent and unchanged. It primary focus is on God and His only begotten Son, our Lord Jesus. It all points to Jesus, His eternal existence, His incarnation, His life, death, resurrection, ascension and His glorious return.

It charts the history of creation, from the creation of the invisible and the visible universe, to the the creation of Mankind. It shows us what went wrong with our World and tells us why. It helps us to understand who we are and why we exist.

The words of the Bible (Scripture) are the words of God. Therefore, the Bible does not just contain the words of God it is the word of God, in written form. The words were given directly from God, in many forms, as a record of His relationship to creation and the people He created.

Because the Bible is the word of God, it is authoritative, has clarity, is necessary and sufficient:

  1. God authorised the writers of the Scriptures, to record His words, deeds and actions
  2. God caused the Scriptures to be written in a way that meant everyone could understand. Any disagreements over meaning, interpretation or application are caused by the readers themselves, and not by the actual words of God
  3. God reveals to us His will through His words in the Bible, He provides a permanent record to help us:
    1. to know the way of Salvation
    2. to know God personally
    3. to know with certainty what God wants us to do in, and with, our lives
    4. to help us to serve God and others in ways that honour both Him and others in His name
  4. God's word is sufficient to meet all of our needs, and to enable us to live the Christian life as we should - it is sufficient for every good work

Though recognising that some translational, or infrequent grammatical errors, can arise during the reproduction of Scripture. Previous generations through meticulous methods of recording, and translating the Scriptures, ensured that the word of God has not been corrupted over the years. Therefore, the Bible can be trusted in many of its current and ancient forms.
