(7) Sanctification...growing in righteousness...washing away our sins...

'Sanctification is a progressive work of God and Man that makes us more and more free from sin and like Jesus in our actual lives'... It is an internal condition that continues throughout life, it is a condition in which we cooperate with God in the progressive cleansing of us from sin.

There are two states of sanctification 1) Positional Sanctification - relates to our right standing before God's righteous law, and is how God views us in Jesus, 2) Progressive Sanctification - relates to our ongoing life in this world and the call from God to become like Jesus, in thought, word, deed and action.

Both positional and progressive sanctification begin at the point of Regeneration, but progressive sanctification continues until our souls depart our bodies, and are set free from this body of sin, our soul then becomes sanctified, made perfect and holy, and awaits the resurrection of our new bodies, which will then be free of all sin and it impact on our eternal lives.

Sanctification increases throughout life, as we respond to the Word of God, in the power of the Holy Spirit, becoming obedient children of God. We are not made perfect in this life contrary to the teachings of some, and sanctification is evident as different in all people dependent upon their level of growth in faith and maturity.

Although we may sin during this process, we are not in danger of losing our Salvation, because we are able to repent of our sins and be forgiven. He who has begun a good work in you will see it through to the end.

The task therefore, as Christians, is to grow more and more into sanctification, just as they previously grew more and more in sin:...

...'Therefore, do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its lusts, and do not go on presenting the members of your body as instruments of unrighteousness; but present yourselves to God as those alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God. For sin shall not be master over you, for you are not under law, but under grace'...(Rom. 6:12-14)
