(9) Death...Spiritual, Physical & Eternal Punishment...

Death is a direct result of Sin in the World, and in Ourselves. Death is a punishment for Sin both in this world and in the next. In this world death is both physical and spiritual.

Scripture tells us that we are sinful from the point of conception ("Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, and in sin did my mother conceive me" Ps. 51:5), therefore, we are subject to the penalty of death. Physical death takes place at the point of our actual death in whatever form that may take, we are born spiritually dead.

We begin life spiritually dead in Sin, due to Adams sin, and later compounded by our own, and our mortal bodies are in decay, we need to be born again. This new birth comes through hearing and believing the gospel of Jesus, and embracing the gift of life, through the gift of Faith in Him. If we are not born again by God the Holy Spirit, spiritual and physical death lead to everlasting punishment.

When the call of God comes to us in the gospel message, faith to believe comes with it. Therefore, it becomes our choice to live or to die, those who believe cross over from death to life, those who disbelieve stand condemned in their unbelief (John 3:16-18).

If we reject the call of God, we also reject the gift of faith, therefore we remain spiritually dead, and subject to both physical death and eternal punishment. If we accept the call of God and in doing so exercise the gift of Faith, we will be born again, becoming a New Creation in Christ and granted eternal life. We will still face our physical death in this life, but triumph over death and eternal punishment. Death will have lost its sting in the victory of our new life which is hidden in Christ:

"It is written, DEATH IS SWALLOWED UP in victory. O DEATH, WHERE IS YOUR VICTORY? O DEATH WHERE IS YOUR STING? The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law; but thanks be to God, who gives us victory through our Lord Jesus Christ(1 Cor. 15: 54 b-57).

Jesus told His disciples that: "My Sheep hear my voice, and I know them and they follow me; and I give eternal life to them, and they shall never perish; and no one will snatch them out of my hand." (John 10;27-28)
