Mysticmonkism - is a term that describes types of religious experience where the individual feels a loss of ego-self and a sense of oneness or unity with either a personal God, or a universal consciousness. Mysticism exist in all the world's religious traditions and consequently the phenomenon has generated a discourse which claims that such experiences are the underlying essential unity of all religions lying behind cultural differences or various cosmologies.

Benedictine and Franciscan Monks

Under the auspices of Vatican 11, took Catholic Mysticism to the India Continent, later merging their monastic mystical experiences with Hinduism and Buddhism.

Mysticism has also generated considerable interest from psychology seeking to understand how neurology correlates with such experience. Mysticism is related to Panenhenic, and Perennial Philosophy:

  1. Panenhenic - a term coined by R.C. Zaehner (1913-74) to categorise experiences where individuals feel a loss of individual self, and a powerful sense of unity with nature. It is referred to as 'nature mysticism'

  2. Perennial Philosophy - a phrase coined by Aldus Huxley (1894-1963) to describe his belief that mystical experiences are essentially the same in different religions, and that such experience constitute the essence of religion, continuing as a constant truth across history and cultures; the concept that the various world religions exist merely as the consequence of various interpretations placed upon such experiences.
