Contemplative Prayer & Centring Prayer: Are the methodology and techniques used to induce an altered state of consciousness, which gives the illusion that one is entering a 'private inner space' or 'inner world' that connects directly to God, enabling a form of deification to take place between the human soul and spirit, and the very essence of God Himself.

It is a self-induced state: that requires varying degrees of transcendental meditation, a fertile imagination and some, or no belief, that God the Holy Spirit is the active agent guiding you through the process. It requires the study of ancient prayers, though not the study of prayer itself.

It allows the participant: to remove themselves from day-to-day reality, is entirely individual and subjective, and therefore cannot be disputed on the grounds of subjectivity (experience), hence the attraction to the post-modern's, Charismatics, and feelings driven individuals, or groups of individuals.
