A Turbulent Past
Christianity and Judaism have a turbulent past, for many this past began with the large influx of Gentiles into the faith community, the Jewish sect, the Way.
For many, this was seen to culminate in the 3rd/4th century, following the declaration in Rome that Christianity was now the state religion, brought about by a pact with the Bishop of a church in Rome (to be crowned the Holy Roman Emperor), and the Roman Solider Constantine (now crowned Emperor), following his widely publicised, conversion to Christianity.
However, the root of this turbulence, runs deeper, its tentacles stretching further back into the 1st century, during the life of Jesus of Nazareth, and widening during the early years to the Gospel proclamation, following His death and resurrection.
Over the centuries, Jews became the target for persecution, during the Crusades and the so-called 'Shepherds' Campaign in southern France, they were accused of 'blood libel' and 'desecration of the host' by Roman Catholcisim, and slaughtered in their thousands.
The Jews were expelled from England in 1290, and from France in 1306, and in the following century from Spain, Portugal, Lithuania, and Sicily, all in the name of Jesus the Messiah, the Prince of Peace!
Martin Luther spent 25 years attacking the Jews, because of his failure to convert them to Christ, most notably in On the Jews and their Lies (1543), a publication said to have inspired Hitler in his justification of his own actions.
What began as an 'in-house' dispute within Judaism, broaden out in subsequent centuries to the almost annihilation of the the Jews, during the second world war, over 1900 years later.
Sentinel Research Ministries will explore further this turbulent history, and bring the light of Scripture to bear on these ages of darkness.
