The Origin of Sin
Does God sin against us, and Himself?
Elihu declares: "Far be it from God that He should do wickedness, and from the Almighty that He should do wrong" (Job 34:10). An observation that centuries later was to be repeated and recorded by James the brother of Jesus, embodied in what he wrote in James 1:13..."God cannot be tempted with evil and He himself tempts no one"
What is the origin of Sin in creation?
God in His sovereignty, looking-forward, decided, that for sin to reveal its existence in Heaven, or on Earth, it would expose itself through the voluntary choices of moral creatures.
Therefore, sin's origin in the created worlds lies in the wilful and volitional choices of Angels, and of Men (Mankind).
Sin was present in the angelic world exposing itself through the fall of Satan and his demon (fallen angels) followers. It originally crossed the threshold into the world of humanity via the first sins that were committed by Adam and Eve (mankind's first ever parents), 'Original Sin'.
All moral creatures when first created were given 'free will' to make right choices before a Holy and Righteous God, to choose otherwise, is the sole responsibility of the chooser, not the creator, for to those who have been created, true freedom of choice and of will had been given.
From Freedom to Slavery...
The consequences of making the wrong choice were 1) enslavement to sin and bondage to Satan, 2) the loss of 'free will' and 3) the impact was to become all embracing, and far reaching, in time and eternity.
In the angelic world, the immoral and rebellious choices made by Satan and those who chose to follow him, resulted in a War in Heaven whereby Satan and his angelic army were cast out of heaven; a war that continues today in Heaven and on Earth.
The consequences of Adam and Eves, immoral and rebellious choices were equally damaging and far reaching; stretching into all subsequent generations; as our conscience and the Law of God testify.
Sin is not just that which we do volitionally, it a state of being brought about at the point of conception, and is manifest through us via our thoughts, word, deeds and actions; it is evident in our attitudes, behaviours, and our in-action towards a Holy God, and each other (sins of 'commission' and sins of 'omission').
All who sin are enslaved to sin, our free will is lost, only our freedom to chose remains, and is able in part, to choose rightly (though imperfectly) aided by our conscience, and the Law of God should we choose to listen to either, Jesus when in discussion with the Jews stated: "Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who commits sin is a slave of sin" (John 8:34), Paul underlines this statement in Romans 3: 9-20.
