The Cults

The term 'The Cults' is a broad term often used to describe deviant religious groups frequently led by unscrupulous, often psychologically disturbed individuals.

In essence they are deviant because they distort genuine religious practice, promote non existent gods, demand unquestionable obedience, exploit vulnerable people, and provide 'salvation' in a seemly infinite variety of ways. There are pagan cults, pseudo-Christian cults, human potential and easy healing cults, New Age cults, esoteric 'spiritualities' and Christian-sectarian cults.

The common factor for all is the 'human centeredness' which offers a way of escape from the rigours of living in a fallen world, and an alternative escape route from the wrath of God to come. Primarily they are anti-God and Anti-Christian.

It is common in the 21st Century to refer to these as New Religious Movements (NRMs), thereby side stepping the stigma that is automatically attached to the term Cults.

I make the distinction between NRMs & Cults as most cults have little or no concept of true religion and tend to be localised and non-universal.

There are of course exceptions and these are well known alternative religions that have grown up over an extensive period of time and are usually a breakaway group from an already establish religion.
